How Dimple built credibility with a Gold Rocketspark Design Award — and made client projects easier by partnering with Rocketspark
When David from Dimple became a Rocketspark Partner he never looked back. Early in 2025, he and his team moved all their client sites (and their own) from WordPress to Rocketspark — and soon after, won a Gold Rocketspark Design Award for their website.
Becoming a Rocketspark partner came down to a few simple things:
Local NZ-based support that actually picks up the phone
A website platform that’s easy to use and backed by real people
Fewer tech headaches for both their team and their clients
Be part of a community of like-minded designers, creatives, and business owners who all use Rocketspark
If you’re running your own design or marketing business and want to grow with less stress and get more support, Rocketspark’s here for you.

Building the Dimple Website
Why was building his own website so difficult?
Even as a digital marketer, David became his own worst client — overthinking every decision and delaying progress. Once he trusted his team and let go of control, the site finally launched.
How did he overcome perfectionism?
A single podcast line changed everything: “Perfection is the lowest standard.” David launched, refined later — and ended up winning a Gold Rocketspark Design Award.
What makes the Dimple website stand out?
Custom illustrations, authentic imagery, and thoughtful branding. David believes personality sets a website apart — not templates or trends.
Why does design still matter in the age of AI?
AI can get you ninety-five percent there, but not the final five that creates emotion and trust. That human spark — tone, humour, character — is what keeps people coming back.
“Perfection is the lowest standard, because perfection means it never gets finished.”

Growing a business that works
What was David’s biggest business lesson?
Having technical skill isn’t enough. You can freelance alone — but to build a real business, you need a team. Hiring, delegating, and leading became his biggest growth curve.
How did David find the right clients?
Early on, Dimple said yes to everyone. Now, they specialise in service-based and eCommerce clients — similar needs, repeatable systems, better results.
How does David approach pricing?
Charging more used to feel uncomfortable, but cheap work led to burnout. “A $250 client takes just as much time as a $2,500 client,” David says — so now he prices for quality, not comfort.
How does David handle imposter syndrome?
David admits it never fully goes away — it just evolves. Every new level (hiring, scaling, charging more) brings fresh self-doubt. But that’s proof you’re still learning and growing.
“A two hundred and fifty dollar client takes just as much time to manage as a two thousand five hundred dollar client.”

Marketing, clients & the Rocketspark difference
How does Dimple attract and keep clients?
Most new clients come through word of mouth — but only because they’ve seen Dimple’s name online too. Events, content, and visibility build trust before the first call.
How did partnering with Rocketspark change things?
Switching from WordPress to Rocketspark made life easier. No tech stack stress, reliable local support, and a simple platform for clients to edit their own sites. It freed Dimple to focus on what they do best — helping clients grow.
“If you appeal to everyone, you appeal to no one.”

What we learnt from David
Done is better than perfect
David learned that waiting for perfection caused delays. By launching his site, he saw progress mattered over perfection.
Pick your niche, not every client
David concentrated on industries with shared needs to improve projects without exhausting or overworking his team.
Add your human touch
David wanted his website to be unique, not like generic designs. So, he used custom illustrations and real images for Dimple's distinct look.
Delegate or be the bottleneck
David, the business owner, was his own obstacle. The Dimple website thrived when he delegated tasks to his team.
Price for quality, not comfort
David found low prices led to burnout and limited results. Charging fair rates made clients happier and improved business outcomes.
Build trust before the sale
David discovered that word-of-mouth and visibility work best for Dimple: share content, attend events, update the website.
