Rocketspark updates

JULY - OCTOBER 2023

Over the last 4 months, we've worked some major projects like our Google Workspace integration, new and improved picture block, slider stacks and hide stacks. We've also been putting a lot of work into fixing up the little things about Rocketspark that would make our customer's lives better.

We've listed all of the features out by category in the accordion below but if you'd rather watch than read, check out the video with Jeremy from our team explaining all of these updates.

We hope you'll enjoy these enhancements as much as we do. As always, keep us posted with feedback and feature ideas. Happy designing!

New features

  • Andy added the hide/show feature to headers and footers so you can hide those on certain pages to create a landing page effect. View guide

  • Lee added the option to hide dates on blog posts if you want to use it as a way to store non-dated content. You can still see the dates in editor mode as a handy way to sort order the content. View guide

New ecommerce features

  • Lee updated our stripe integration so you can set up Afterpay through Stripe and in future gain access to other buy now pay later services via Stripe—we'll keep ya posted on that one! Rocketspark's stripe integration also supports the Link payment option with Stripe, so buyers can use their saved card details from other stripe-using stores on your website. View guide

  • Harvey added a delete all products feature so that if you want to start again from scratch and upload your inventory via CSV file afresh you’re starting with a blank slate. View guide

  • The quantity picker on a product now shows a warning if you try to add more quantity than is actually available. That is unless you have that product set to “continue selling when sold out”.

  • When buyers apply filters, store owners can decide whether they want filters to combine results or narrow down results. If you want to see all gluten and dairy free products for example, you’d want the filters to narrow down. But if you’re wanting to see all red bowls and all green bowls, you don’t want it to narrow down.

  • We launched a fix for the situation where sometimes checkouts were showing an inconsistent number of items in the basket.

Performance improvements

  • We reduced the size of one of the files that help with pagespeed scoring.

  • We launched a new way of storing ecommerce images behind the scenes to improve speed and performance. This has been a gradual rollout over several months and is now complete.

  • Upgrading our code to the latest version of PHP (sorry about the tech lingo — this is kind of like updating the operating system on your computer).

Making Rocketspark faster and easier to use

  • When opening an editing side drawer, Andy & Nicole made sure the dashboard menu never shows.

  • Lee changed it so that if you've got an unsaved text block you can't click away to another place.

  • Andy improved the experience of adding a new page so it scrolls you down to that page if you have a lot of pages (plus a handy go to page link in the added page notification).

  • On really tiny blocks, the add block and edit pencil were overlapping so Nicole fixed that up.

  • We’ve updated our edit block popups to match the rest of Rocketspark and removed dark backgrounds.

  • Better email notifications when your credit card is about to expire so you can ensure your website stays online.

Making Rocketspark easier for people getting started

  • Ben changed it so that when someone first uses Rocketspark, we guide them towards editing their template's saved brand colours before adding a new saved brand colour.

  • Ben updated the Rocketspark signup form to match our latest branding and is now more mobile friendly.

  • Ben set it up so that when picking a template you can filter by industry.

  • We’ve fixed up an issue that makes it easier to buy domain names with Rocketspark.

Design improvements

  • Before the accordion plus/arrow icons were a little big in certain situations as they matched your accordion heading size. Nicole changed these icons to have a maximum size on them so they can never get too massive.
